About us

The UK Research Integrity Office is an independent advisory body, providing guidance and support on good research practice and how to address fraud and misconduct in research. Launched in 2006, we provide assistance to researchers, research organisations and members of the public. A registered charity, we cover research wherever it is carried out in the UK: in universities, the NHS, private sector bodies and charities.

We welcome enquiries on any issues relating to the conduct of research, as well as requests for assistance with specific cases of alleged misconduct. UKRIO is the only dedicated research integrity body in the UK and no other organisation has comparable expertise in providing such support.

UKRIO covers all disciplines of research. We were created to provide support to the UK life sciences research community as a pilot for a wider remit but demand from employers and researchers led us to support all disciplines of research from early in our first phase. Since then we have amassed considerable experience in helping employers, researchers and the public with issues of research conduct across all subject areas.

We are not a regulatory body and have no formal legal powers. The advice and guidance UKRIO offers is not mandatory but reflects best practice and is informed by our extensive and unique practical experience. Further information on our programme of work is available or you may download a summary.
